DATE: Victorian, c.1860
A stunning mid Victorian bird brooch, seemingly some sort of falcon/hawk/raptor... possibly a sparrowhawk or red kite? It's beautifully made, fully pavé set with turquoise cabochons, and of 3D construction with feather detail and ruby eyes - posed as if mantling its prey. Crafted in 9 karat gold with stones set in silver, it was hand made in England circa 1860 and features a loop allowing for wear as a pendant.
