It served dual roles - as an amulet to keep a child safe or was presented to a loved one for protection from evil. Around the 18th century the meaning of the form evolved and it became a love token. When once bestowed the recipient would become "bewitched to fall in love"? with the donor.

While brooches are the most common form, rarely is one found in a ring. This one is utterly bewitching (smile!) in rubies and diamonds. In 18k gold, the heart is tipped to the side and its curled end is accompanied by three rubies that suggest an arrow through the center.

It's all about love, adoration and sentiment. Ten rose cut diamonds (.10 carats, color H-I, clarity VS2-SI2) and three rubies of .40 carats of crimson red. English in origin, it dates to circa 1910.
